About Woottens

 

Since 1908, on the same banks of the River Thames, five generations of Woottens have been building, restoring, repairing, maintaining and mooring traditional and vintage wooden boats. Practicing and employing traditionally trained and highly skilled professionals, we pride ourselves on being one of few boat builders who utilise the rich craft of our past, today.

Building & Restoration

We offer a comprehensive service to design and build any new boat to your individual requirements. We also fully restore boats to there former glory to the highest of standards maintaining and restoring original features to help the legacy of your boat live long into the future.

Maintenance & Engineering

From replacing planks, anti-fouling to painting & varnishing all our jobs are carried out to the highest of standards. We also offer engineering work including Servicing, Engine rebuilds, installation, Steering, Stern gear, Electrical, Steam, Diesel, Inboards, Outboards and Outdrives.

Moorings & Brokerage

Boats are slipped from the river for winter storage where they are then pressure washed, engines are winterised and batteries are stored and charged. Boats are stored in our undercover facilities - engines are re-commissioned and the boats are relaunched the following Spring.

Our Rich History

Founder by Arthur Wootten, born in 1872. He was the son of a Boat Builder and had been involved with boats since the age of ten, but in spite of this began, his working life was as an Electrical Engineer, and was one of the first people to install electricity in private houses at Bourne End.
